Abstract

The current paper elaborates the author’s research of the Chinese classic philosophy by the means of the contemporary Epistemology language. It represents the comparative analysis of the principles of the Buddhism and the Chinese philosophy. Relative completeness of the Buddhism worldview and scholar systems before its spreading across the China allows to review only its key notions: causality (karma), discrete description of perception (dharma), the non-presence of the Self (anatma), the non-duality of illusion (samsara) and awakening (nirvana). The author argues the common idea that the principles of the Buddhism were radically different from the previous Chinese philosophical tradition. The argumentation grounds on the analysis of the classical Confucian texts that originated before the spreading of the Buddhism: “Zhou Yi”, “Da Xue”, “Zhong Yong”. Such choice of the sources is because Confucian philosophy was the main opponent for the Buddhism in centuries, and such comparison is optimal to reveal their differences and similarities. The paper provides the analysis of the changes cycle (zhou yi), the investigation of things (ge wu) and sincerity (cheng yi). The result is revealing essential similarity of the ancient Chinese philosophy principles with the main ideas of the Buddhism. Thus, it is claimed that the spreading of the Buddhism across the China was not the alien worldview invasion, but the renewing of the culture in accordance with its foundational principles.
