Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of the female spiritual path in the Daoist Quanzhen School. At the beginningof this religious movement therewas Sun Bu-er, the founder of the School of Purity and Tranquility (Qingjing pai). In her works, there were laid the foundations of women’s alchemical practice (nü dan), which is one of the most interesting and poorly studied directions of Daoism in the culture of modern China. As a source was selected a collection of poems “Female Practice of Internal Alchemy” (Nü gong nei dan), which is a part of the collection of poetic works under her name “The Teaching Sayings of the Primordial Lady Sun Bu-er” (“Sun Bu-er yuan jun fa yu”), the stages of women’s perfection are analyzed in detail. On the example of seven poems, beginning with the method of “Decapitating the Red Dragon” and ending with the appearance of immortal spirit-shen in the body, compared with the lotus flower. In the precepts, the emphasis is placed on both the nurturing of the inner nature (xing) and the life force (ming), which lies in the paradigm of Quanzhen teachings, which has been advocated for their dualcultivation (shuang xiu).
