- Abstract
The article deals with ethicaland philosophical sources instrumental to the working out of the renowned concept of teologia accomodativa, used by the Jesuit missionaries while working in China. The author argues that Italian artist Giuseppe Castiglione and his colleagues at the court of Manchu Emperors in Beijing skilfully implemented theoretical frameworks of European theosophists and thinkers in order to create in China a delicate visual synthesis of Western and Chinese traditions, expected from them by the crowned patrons.
