Abstract

The name of Stanislav Andreski (1919-2007) is rarely mentioned in Russian works on social philosophy. This is attributed, in part, to his quite critical conceptual assessments of the state of modern social and human sciences. His harsh assessments are based on the direct appeals to the socio-political and humanitarian reality of the 20th century - the fact which explains the main reason for the unpopularity of his criticism. He devoted his life to the critical analysis of ideas of the classics of sociology (M. Weber) in the context of wars, revolutions, dictatorships and other catastrophes of the last century.

This article attempts to assess the methodological effectiveness of the approach presented in Andreski's works to modern sociology which is built on the reflections of his generation on the social reality of that time. Moreover, the author of the article justifies the idea that historical experience of Andreski's generation and the focus of the conceptual generalizations present also an undoubted existential, research and methodological interest to us living in a not so tragic, but nevertheless quite stormy era.
