Abstract

European countries are at the center of world attention because of the complex problems in the socio-economic and political spheres. However, some peripheral countries manage to maintain a certain independence from general processes and focus on domestic issues. The article analyzes the parliamentary and presidential elections outcomes in Portugal, resulting in a change of leadership and type of leadership. Given the vicissitudes of the formation of governments. The author introduces the President Marcelo Rebelo de Souza, investigates the reasons for his victory. The paper examines the prospects of the political development in light of the elections.
