- Abstract
- In the article the author analyses two short stories from the collection “The orange tree, or the circles of time” (1992) by C. Fuentes, the Mexican writer of the XX century. These works are studied as the examples of the new Latin American historical novel which aims to “re-create” and “re-invent” the history in order to find the truth about the past. The image of an alternative history plays an important part in carrying out this task. So that the historical justice can triumph the writer has to go counter to the official historiography and represent some possible branches of the national history tree.
