- Abstract
- The article is devoted to the "father" of the Guatemalan literature Rafael Landivar, the author of the didactic poem in Latin “Rusticatio Mexicana”. The poem presents a vivid and unusual example of a combination of Latin American and Antique classical traditions. It reflected realities of the New World described in panegyric way. There are numerous borrowings in the poem from the texts of classical Roman literature. Landivar used two types of borrowings: direct and indirect. Direct borrowings came back to a particular episode from ancient literature and indirect ones projected deep underlying ideas of the Roman texts on the plot of “Rusticatio Mexicana”. The study of these borrowings makes possible to evaluate the significance of ancient classical tradition in the formation of the Latin American culture.
