- Abstract
- The article is devoted to the genesis of football in Latin America, as well as the reasons for its popularity in the region from the time of its origin to the present day. The modern football emerges in the second half of the XIX century in the UK as a means of satisfaction of the need for physical activity, and soon turns into a specific show business popular all over the world. In addition, there are special social preconditions for the success of football in Latin America. These include the high level of social inequality, the oligarchy of the capitalist class and the difficulty of upward mobility, which makes football one of the few active social lifts. Furthermore, the compensatory functions of football have great importance. The author offers an explanation that it was Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay who managed to achieve the most significant results on the football fields.
