- The article analyzes the recently published book of Andrei Fedorovich Kofman "Under the patronage of Santiago. The Spanish conquest of America and the fate of the famous conquistadors. " St. Petersburg, Publishing House "Kriga", 2017. The content of the book is considered in the context of the problem of the genesis of Latin American civilization. Ya.G. Shemyakin substantiates the point of view according to which the main features of this civilization were determined already at the time of her birth, in the era of the conquest
