Аннотация

В статье рассматривается вопрос, можно ли считать Первую мировую тотальной войной. Выделяя характеристики "тотальности" войны и используя примеры из истории России, Великобритании, Франции и Германии, автор приходит к выводу, что в 1914-1918 гг. прослеживались серьезные тенденции к "тотализации" войны, однако ряд факторов не дал им полностью реализоваться. Первая мировая война, с позиции наблюдателя начала XXI в., с большим основанием претендует на звание не первой "тотальной", а первой "современной" войны.
