Важно отметить, что взятый курс на самодостаточность не предполагает движения к обособленности или замкнутости. Наоборот, как подчеркивают индийские правящие круги, сущность данной стратегии состоит в том, чтобы увеличить вклад страны в мировые цепочки создания стоимости, повысить конкурентоспособность отечественного производства различных товаров и услуг, рассчитанных как на внутреннего потребителя, так и на экспорт. Построение экономически сильной и стабильной Республики Индия на основе раскрытия внутреннего потенциала развития должно также содействовать увеличению её политического влияния на региональные и общемировые процессы.
