- Abstract
- Louis Fischer (1896-1970) was a well-known American journalist who lived in Europe for almost 20 years. Professor at Princeton (1930) and Yale (1936) universities; own European correspondent for the Nation magazine. In 1936, L. Fischer went to Spain as a journalist and at the same time joined the international brigade as a volunteer. Fischer wrote a series of articles for The Nation about the war in Spain. In may 1937, Fischer's pamphlet "The War in Spain"was published in new York. Materials from Fischer's publications taken for this article give an idea of the nature of the situation in the Republic at that time.
