Abstract
The article discusses the evidences for the existence of ritual cannibalism in South America, XVI-XVII centuries. The author shows that, contrary to the claims of the supporters of the absence of the ritual on the continent, it really took place, and was closely associated with the military-ritual complex of the beliefs of Brazilian Indians.
