- Abstract
Three aspects of the presidential elections in Ecuador are analyzed in the article: the national, the regional and the global one. The first one reflects the tendency of Civil revolution continuity. The second locates the recent campaign within the regional “left turn” general course. The third is connected with the “Assange factor”. Considering the elections’ national dimension, the author shows the main results of ten-year Correa government, and the causes which have led the electorate to the current state of polarization and split. Also the author offers a new periodization of the Latin American “left turn”, dividing it in two stages: consecutive development and crisis. The elections in Ecuador represent some kind of “durability test” for that regional trend, and also embody all the critical features of the last-years situation taken shape in the countries of the “21st century socialism”.
