- Abstract
- The article presents biographically how Octavio Paz got acquainted with the world's art heritage and reveals the crucial role of visual experience in the formation of his poetics. It is shown that on further stages of his creative itinerary Paz conceptualizes this experience, proving himself a keen art critic. Still Paz perceives himself primarily as a poet: he apprehends the visual forms through the verbal, considering art criticism a form of translation.
