- Abstract
- This article examines causes, current state and consequences of the rise of the political activism of indigenous population in Latin America during the last 25 years. It analyses factors that made several governments in the region change their policies towards indigenous communities and incentives that contributed to the increase of political representation of ethnic groups in the power structures; considers problems and discrepancies that persist in the relations between States and the indigenous peoples.
