- Abstract
- Over the past one-and-a-half decades Latin America-Korea trade and Korea’s foreign direct investment to the region has increased greatly. Amongst the Asia- Pacific countries Korea is the most dynamic economic actor in Latin America. The article briefly reviews the entire history of the Republic of Korea’s engagement with the region starting since the end of 1940s till late 1990s with an emphasis on its trade and investment ties with Latin American countries. It also gives a picture of the current scope of Korea’s economic presence in Latin America in the 21st century, identifies the place this East Asian country occupies in the interregional relations between Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region.
