[full_description] => В статье рассматриваются вопросы исторического развития и государственного устройства Белиза. Подробно исследуются политическая и правовая системы страны, структура и состав Национальной ассамблеи и система ее формирования. Отмечается важная роль двух крупнейших политических сил - Народной объединенной партии и Объединенной демократической партии - и их лидеров в деле становления и развития парламентской демократии в стране. Дается оценка этнической, социальной и конфессиональной дифференциации белизского общества. Затронуты аспекты экономического развития. Освещены вопросы превращения Белиза с начала 1990-х гг. в один из центров международного офшорного и туристического бизнеса. Анализируются изменения в расстановке политических сил и общественно-политической ситуации на основании итогов парламентских выборов в конце ХХ в. и в первое десятилетие ХХI в. Особое внимание уделяется решению территориального спора между Белизом и Гватемалой, а также внешней политике правительства страны, направленной на отстаивание национальных интересов и поиск своей ниши в интеграционных процессах в Латинской Америке.
