Abstract
Notorious rebellion of Lope de Aguirre, a soldier who had defied the Spanish king and decided to deprive Spain its American colonies , was documented in a number of chronicles. The most interesting document was the chronicle written by Francisco Vasquez, the direct participant of the event. The chronicle tells how during the expedition to the Amazon to find El Dorado (1560-1561) Lope de Aguirre, made a conspiracy, killed the legitimate governor and became the head of the rebel troops. The path of the expedition was strewn with corpses: the leader of the rebels killed his companions on the slightest suspicion of treason. It is amazing that the "little revolution" in the heart of an unknown continent, had developed following the same laws as the future French and Russian revolutions would do. It is an abridged translation of the chronicle with an introduction and afterword.
