Abstract
The article considers the system of characters of the Cuban "political" poetry (poetry of consciousness) of the 60s and 70s, especially, the poems on Soviet topics. The three main character types (revealed by analyzing texts of more than 40 Cuban authors) - politicians, writers, "nation" in general - and the functioning of their names/nominations in the poems correspond the poetry's original genre intention as an instrument of praise, but at the same time they serve to get closer to the new Other, which shortly after the Cuban Revolution became defining for the Cuban national self-consciousness.
