- Abstract
- The article describes the process and results of the Jesuit missionary activity (17-18 centuries) on the territories of present day East Bolivia and Peruvian-Ecuadorian borderlands (the so-called province of Mainas). Causes of missionary success in the former region and fail in the last one are analyzed, and it is shown that they depended not only of cultural level of the natives but first of the entire political situation on those territories (presence of Spanish troops, Portuguese incursions, intertribal relations, etc.).
