Abstract
April 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the Portuguese revolution that completely changed the face of the country. Revolution that took place at April 25, 1974 swept almost fifty years old authoritarian regime and led to the need to create from scratch a new socio-political format. The historical period that began, won the title of the Third Republic. The article presents a modern place of Portugal on the political map of the world, showing the features and stages of transition from authoritarianism to democracy, describes the current political model, and analyzes the behavior of authorities in times of world financial-economic crisis.
