- Abstract
- The first records of folklore of the Chuvan (Chuvantsy), the people whose historical path was extremely complex, were made at the time when the Chuvan language was already extinct as such. The study of the Chuvan folklore today, the author stresses, may only be considered as a reconstruction attempt. Still, the available data on folklore of the Russian-speaking Chuvan enables one to interpret and study this particular plane of traditional culture of the people who have up to the present day retained the identity of the Chuvan. Drawing on an array of comparative linguistic, folklore, cultural, and historical materials, the author presents a thorough study of the subject.
