Abstract
The military-medical service in the rear regions of Russia, who in the years of Russian-Japanese war the closest to the theater of operations (the device of infirmaries and hospitals, especially their placement and content, recruitment of medical staff, the sanitary situation in the settlements servicing local residents) remains poorly understood. In particular, the role of the Yenisei province in the rescue of wounded and sick officers and lower ranks is covered in only a few lines, and then only in the local literature. The Main Military Medical Department, to which the medical inspectors of the military districts were subordinate, was responsible for the medical support of the army, the staffing of personnel, and the supply of infirmaries and hospitals with the necessary equipment and medicines. From the very beginning of the war, the organization of the military medical service in the theater of operations proved to be complex, cumbersome and not always controlled by the chief field military medical inspector, who did not have any medical facilities or medical personnel. Many positions, from the medical department to the heads of sanitary transports, were held by military leaders who were not prepared to manage the affairs of the sanitary service of the troops. The generals ordered the distribution of hospitals and the evacuation of the sick and wounded, often ignoring the opinion of doctors, which led to discontent, and often to a clash between both sides. According to the testimony of the life surgeon E. V. Pavlov, who was sent in 1905. to the far East for the inspection of medical and health institutions of the army and the home front, military authorities treated their "duty not based on the form, and not understanding its alien in a specialty, business, and submission of all medical personnel had to be unquestioning»
